Angela is a young Gumbaynggirr woman living on the mid north coast who loves making soap!
Angela tells us a little more about her products:
The idea of soap making began during pregnancy when I grew tired of using soap and skin care products containing chemicals. Passionate about skin care in (2016) I decided to teach myself the art of soap making using a Cold Process method. From my new hobby my family and I have enjoyed the benefits of using my skin loving creations. Thus, Gumbaynggirr Wenonah Handmade Soap was born.
The title of my business GUMBAYNGGIRR WENONAH came from – GUMBAYNGIRR the Nation of our kinship family and WENONAH is a headland in Urunga (Yoorrun.ga) New South Wales. My Grandmother Margaret Boney lived on Wenonah Headland amongst the natural surrounds of the native flora and fauna for over 30 years. I spent most of my childhood there growing up on the land with family. I pay my respects to the land and waters for the knowledge that it has provided for the unique production of my soaps that bring an element of indigenous culture.
My Indigenous Culture has allowed me to tap into and utilise the ancient knowledge of health and healing. This is achieved by the infusion of the life force that’s captured in the Native Australian Essential oils.
We currently offer a range of soaps in 3 sizes 100g, 500g and 1kg to encourage minimum packaging and is more cost effective to our customers. We also make Bath bombs, Bath Salts as well as Shampoo and Conditioner bars. Watch this space for new up and coming Indigenous products!
