Live concerts and performances have a very special role in Australia’s cultural and creative life and are pivotal in helping Australian performers showcase their talents, hone their skills and earn an income. Live performance offers artists instant audience feedback and provides a mechanism to promote their music, their image and their brand. It is therefore crucially important to nurture and develop live concerts and performances across the nation.
The report, titled The Economic and Cultural Value of Live Music in Australia 2014, has confirmed the live music sector delivers a major economic boost to the economy and paves the way for key policy developments in the future.
- Live music spending in Australia delivers at least 3:1 benefit-to-cost ratio (page 51);
- Nationally, an estimated 65,000 full and part-time jobs are created by monies spent on live music (page 39), with taxation revenue generated for all tiers of government, (page 46);
Harbourside Markets is proud to support musicians and entertainers from Australia and all over the world in providing a live venue for artists and some great entertainment for our market visitors. We care about our artists and want to make sure they are getting royalties for their original compositions. We do this by purchasing a permission license from One Music Australia.
OneMusic Australia is an APRA AMCOS and PPCA joint licensing initiative launched in 2019.
In Australia music creators generally authorise two organisations to administer their rights – APRA AMCOS (composers and music publishers) and PPCA (recording artists and record labels). A OneMusic licence bundles all those rights into one licence that further simplifies the process of gaining the required permission to use music. Without this licence you would, for example, need to deal directly with the composers, songwriters, music publishers, recording artists and record labels who own the rights in the music you wish to use.
While live music has the ability to generate community and encourage creativity and we want to help secure its future.
