Are you ready to take the first step in being better prepared for bush fires?
Get Ready Weekend is an annual event that provides an opportunity for you to engage with your local brigade, find out about the bush fire risk in your area and to plan and prepare for the bush fire danger period which is now is some parts of NSW.
Our local RFS will be holding an information day at Harbourside Markets on the 23rd August from 8am to 2pm, this is a great opportunity to get ready ahead of time. The day will also include some family fun activities for the kids with games, dress-ups and of course a big red firetruck on display.
As we know from very recent events nobody is immune to the threat of fire. Last fire season was horrendous for many communities with thousands of homes destroyed during Australia’s “Black Summer” and more than 5 million hectares of land burnt across the state.
Whilst many areas have had decent rainfall, bush and grass fires are still possible now as the weather starts to warm up towards spring and it’s important to have a Bush Fire Survival plan in place. “It doesn’t take long for these areas to dry out and see that risk and that’s why we want people to make sure they’re prepared year-round for these fires,” RFS spokesman James Morris said.
Having a fire plan means you have every chance to help save property and lives in case of the real threat of a bushfire emergency. Our local RFS will be on hand at the markets with information on fire preparation, and to help walk you through the steps of creating your own bushfire safety plan.
As well as general information there will also be opportunities for people looking to engage in other ways including volunteering and non fire-fighting activities you can be involved in.
Come along to the ‘Get Ready Weekend’ at Harbourside Markets. It takes as little as 20mins to prepare a plan. It’s a fact. If you and your home are well prepared, you stand a better chance of surviving a bush fire.
Harbourside Farmers Market, 8am to 2pm every Sunday at the Jetty Foreshore Coffs Harbour.
