Did you know Harbourside Markets recycles your bottles to raise money for charity?
That’s right! After you have enjoyed a freshly prepared meal and quenched your thirst at one of our food stalls every bottle, can, juice box, or glass bottle you place in the specially marked bins is taken to the bottle bank to be recycled. All money raised from the bottle buy-back donation goes to the international non-profit organisation Malala Fund educating women and girls.
Why did we choose Malala Fund? Educating girls and empowering women is one of the most high-impact and cost-effective ways for every nation on this planet to take positive action on climate change.
Ensuring that all girls and women have access to education and family planning, they are empowered to earn higher wages, become more independent, actively manage their reproductive health, and have fewer and healthier children, consequently slowing down the population growth. Population size is a key driver of demand for food, transportation, electricity, buildings and goods, etc, all of which produce emissions.
So next time you have a drink at Harbourside markets remember to put your bottle in the right bin! The knock-on effect is pretty incredible! If you need help or have any questions please visit us at the market information stall.
